Hi Sheila,
I just thought I would take a few minutes to update you about our puppy, Kirby. You knew him as Navy and we brought him to our home on July 15th.
Kirby is now almost 5 months old and has brought so much fun, love and happiness into all of our lives. He loves to be outside with us, loves to go for walks, loves to play in the river near our house, but his most favorite thing is just being with us. He is fully crate trained and has been since the first night he was in our house. He was fully house broken by the end of his 5th day with us. I’ve never had such an easy time house training a puppy as we’ve had with him. He has tons of toys to play with and loves each toy a lot. He is now in puppy kindergarten with the Muncie Obedience Club. We started two weeks ago and he really enjoys that time. He’s the star pupil of the class because he’ll participate in any activity, so long as he gets his treats J! He is definitely a very confident dog with a stubborn streak in him, but he’ll do just about anything to get a treat. He’s got a huge food drive. At almost 5 months, he stands about 22 inches from the withers and is approximately 52 pounds. I’m attaching a few pictures for you to see.
I wanted to thank you and your husband for being such fine, reputable, conscientious breeders. Everyone who meets Kirby tells us how beautiful he is and how pretty his markings are. Our vet asked where we got him from because he said he’s not seen such a good specimen of the German Shepherd breed in a long time. Kirby’s personality is definitely that of a German Shepherd and he’s a little cautious around new people, but once he’s around them for a few minutes, he’s fine with them. We are so thankful to you for providing us with such a great addition to our family.
I will send some more pictures in a few months and keep you posted on how he’s doing.
Thanks again,
Michelle Burdette, Gary, Austin, Kayleigh, Kirby and Cookie!
Hi Sheila
Well Shanara went to the doctors today for her 9
weeks check up. She was so well
behaved they asked me where I got her because of her personality the
doctor said I wish more breeders would breed for temperament. She is well and healthy. But I told them she
would be because our breeder really loves her dogs and she takes good care of
them all. They asked me how she was
doing with potty training so I told her I have no problems. They were so taken with her and I was very
proud of her, but I am always proud of her because we love her very much the
doctor asked me if I had any worry about Shanara, and I told her I have never
had any worrys from the time I met my breeder.
None. And I told her about all
your dogs all she could say was I wish there were more like you. So thank you once again Sheila, for giving
us such a beautiful and loving pup. I just wanted you to know how good Shanara
was this morning. I knew she would be.
Ron will be getting the pictures from Wal-Mart today and I have started
another film, which I know I have some really great pictures on it and will
send you some of those as well
Love Ron, Rosanna, and Pookey
Sheila,
I
was out walking with him tonight and as usual several people stopped me. One
guy wanted to know where I got him and how much he was. I couldn't
remember your email off hand...so I gave him mine and then I'll forward yours
to him. You wouldn't believe how many people want to know where I
got him. I'm going to just start handing out business cards of
yours...lol...just kiddin'. But, I'll always have your email on
hand.
Hi Sheila,
I just wanted to let you know how many compliments Tank has
received! Today we were at the dog park and a woman with two other dogs
came up to Tank and me. She just couldn't stop saying how good he
looked. She has had a few GSD (many that she rescues) and told me that it
is very hard to find a GSD that looks the way it should...one without tons of
physical problems and the way they look. Mainly due to poor
breeding...very poor breeding. Also, she was amazed by his
temperament. He's very outgoing and friendly...loves people and just wants
to play with all dogs. Even though her dogs were HUGE (a Newfoundland and
another huge breed) Tank will approach and try to coax the other dogs to
play. He's made quite a few friends.
Anyway, she wanted to know where I had bought
him. I told her from a breeder up in Iowa and gave her your name.
She is looking at getting a 3rd dog, but in a while. She just couldn't
believe how beautiful he looked and what an amazing job of breeding was
done.
And of course, everyone is always so amazed at how big
his paws are. And no one believes me when I say he's just a little over 8
weeks. They all think he's at least 3 months. Well, I better get
going. But, I just wanted to let you know how much I love Tank and how
he's done an amazing job of becoming part of the family. He's such a joy
and brings endless smiles. He's become such a wonderful friend. Thanks
for everything.

Hi,
I
just saw a pup from your breeding and was very impressed. As a long time
owner of GSD and dog trainer it was very refreshing to see a pup of this
quality. His temperament was absolutely outstanding not to mention that he
was a gorgeous pup. His owners are Alex and Robin
Gigov from Aberdeen, SD.

Hi Van & Sheila,
It was nice to meet you.
You are good people. Robin and I
were so impressed with the dogs and the facility you guys have that we forgot
to take pictures and film around there as we brought a camera and camcorder.
We want to tell you that the trip back home had been great and we
didn’t have any problems. We decided on
the name for the pup – Buck. He is
adorable, strong, curious, playful and courageous. He did not get carsick at all and slept for the most part. He didn’t even whine once. Of course, we made enough stops to let him
go to the bathroom and drink water. We
got in Aberdeen at around 4 a.m. Later
on, we also noticed that Buck has a healthy appetite drinks plenty of water and
he bonds well to us.
To simply say that we are happy with the dog and the choice we made
to come to the Fonken-Haus is not enough.
We wish you and your beautiful dogs all the best during the New
Year.

Dear Van & Sheila,
Loved
the first birthday card. Here’s my most
recent picture. It’s hard to believe
that we’ve had Baily for over a year now.
She gets prettier each day and is incredibly smart. We took “Puppy Class” last fall and will be
taking our first adult training class this fall. Hope you like the picture, although it doesn’t do her justice.

Van
& Sheila,
You
used to know me as “Red”. Mom & Dad
named me “Symbal of Excellence” they call me “Symba”. Dad took me to obedience school for 10 weeks and they taught me
how to be a lady. Mom and Dad had me
spayed when I was six months old. They
don’t want any babies and if they do eventually, it’ll be a new brother or
sister from you. I’m happy and healthy
and my new mom and dad love me very much!
Symba
(Red)
Van & Sheila,
The girls are like two peas in a pod. Scout never leaves Symba’s side.
Some days we think Symba believes she’s the mommy. Scout is the calm one of the two. She reminds us of Bear, but we think she
looks like Rush. She follows Symba’s
every move, except when it comes to chasing cars. We love them both dearly!

Van
& Sheila,
We
brought a puppy from your home to ours on Feb 1, 2000. We did not have a name for him that night,
but 24 hours later we named him: CANTANKEROUS-however, we call him “Tank” or
“Tanker” for short. At 7 months of age
he weighed 86 lbs. The picture was
taken just outside our back door, which is where Tank waits for us to come out
and play with him. Our son Trey had
just turned one in this picture. Our
kids love him and he loves the kids. If
you guys are going to have another liter this year let us know. We are thinking about getting another
Shepherd to run on the acreage with Tank.
Thanks,
Todd, Shantel, Tia & Trey Smith
Dear Van & Sheila,
How are you? Sorry these
pictures are so long in coming! Can’t
believe Ray will be “2” on Monday.
Ray’s registered name is “Rising Ray de Sol” (of the sun). She weighs 72 lbs and is a HUGE baby but
guards our home & yard from strangers.
We love her very much. She adds
so much to our lives!

Thanks
for calling to check on me and my new family.
I’m doing great. I love my new
family, especially Clint. He likes to
run and play and he lets me sleep with him.
Terry takes me to Grandpa and Grandmas Olson’s or to Bakersfield to walk
every night. (I love to walk, just wish
he didn’t have to but me in that darn car to get there.) I like Cali and Kim too- they really mother
me. Kim gets up at 6:00 every morning
so I can go out (she’s really strict
about doing my duty outside) she says that I’m a really smart girl. I’ve only had 2 accidents and both of them
were on the tile not the carpet. Cali
is helping me to be friends with Darrell (she’s an 11 year old cocker spaniel)
Darrell is kinda set in her ways, but I’m really putting on the charm. Mama and Tuffy are the two cats that live
here. It’s going to take A LOT of charm
and about 100 pounds on me, and then maybe they’ll like me or RESPECT me. Hope this finds you all doing well. Tell Mom and Dad Hi for me!
Love
and miss you all, ANNIE
